Egg

that egg on your face

once came from a chicken

that was owned by the man

who was the lover of the woman

you promised your soul to

before she left you

for an accountant who was

allergic to cats and disliked

the cat you had given the woman

two days before she left a note

on the refrigerator for you

saying neither of you connected

in any way so what was the point

 

 

 

Bio:  Christina Murphy lives and writes in a 100 year-old Arts and Crafts style house along the Ohio River. Her writing appears in a number of anthologies and journals including, most recently, ABJECTIVE, A cappella Zoo, PANK, Word Riot, Fiction Collective, and LITnIMAGE. Her work has received Special Mention for a Pushcart Prize and has won the 2011 Andre Dubus Award for Short Fiction from Words and Images.
